How to Register Your Blog on a Domain (Fast, Secure, & Affordable)

This is going to be a very simple tutorial about how you start your own blog.

For whom is this for?

Alright. Let’s start.

There are hundreds of blogging tools you can try out in 2024, but today let’s create a great one using WordPress, as it’s one of the most popular and user-friendly Content Management Systems out there, with more than 43% global usage.

Furthermore, it comes with a vast library of themes and plugins, you can fully personalize the blog to suit your unique style and needs.

I’ll walk you through all the steps of how to make your blog you’ll only need to open your web browser for this Hands-On practice, but before we do all of that let’s start by asking ourselves some essential questions.

The benefit of Having Your Own Blog

What I always say is having a blog of your own is better than writing for 100 other blogs.

Why is that?

Because you own it, all the profit goes to you. Your time and hard work will no longer be without return. You will be able to earn a great amount of passive income through having one.

Need more details about, Why you should start a blog? Read our guide on 13 reasons why?

Let’s find out how you create a blog and publish it with a “.com” domain.

Before anything, How much it will cost you?

For everything from buying a hosting provider to publishing it securely, it will only take ~$68. But I will show you a way to get an extra 20% discount for it.

Here’s a little bit of what you will get with the package: (I still use this)

  • Hosting account for 100 websites (You won’t need that many)
  • Free “.com” domain worth ~$9.90
  • Free SSL (For better security)
  • 100GB SSD Storage, 100 Company Emails

And everything you need to create your blog without any problem.

Get the package with this link. (Open this on a new tab)

Buying the Domain

When You click on the link it will open in a new tab. It will look something like this.

Double-check the URL for the REFERRALCODE=1DUMINDU07 otherwise, it will cost you the original amount.

Click on Claim deal.

On the next page, choose the premium plan.

You will get the same discount for any plan here with my reference code, but Premium plan will be enough — Incase I also use it.

Check your order

When you choose the Premium plan, it will take you to set up the hosting plan. You will see 4 options to choose from like this.

I’m not gonna lie, the 1-month and the 12-month options are not worth taking. One month will pass even before you finish up your blog and 1 year plan is too short.

Go for the 24-month plan. It is the best option you can take.

The 4-year plan seems a nice offer, but it’s probably gonna reduce hosting prices within that period. So, 2 years are perfect.

  • Then create an account using your Google account or manually
  • Select the payment method
  • Check whether the discount code has already been applied, or add it as given above.
  • Fill in all the necessary details in the input fields and click on Submit secure payment

Installing WordPress

Alright! Now that we have our hosting plan ready the next step is to set up our website by installing WordPress.

As you brought the hosting plan, you will be redirected to the WordPress installation guide. Click on Start Now to start setting it up.

  • From there click on skip I don’t want the personalized experience since we will do all of the things our way.
  • Click on Create a new Website
  • Then choose to go with WordPress
  • Next, you will be asked to create a new WordPress account. Go ahead fill in all the necessary fields and hit enter.
  • Skip without installing any plugin on the next page (We will do that when it is needed).
  • Then you will be asked to select a template, but skip that too. We are going to design our own one.
  • Skip everything until you see the page to set up the domain.

Setting up Domain

Finally, it’s time to choose a good name for your blog and register it on a domain. If you have no idea how to choose a proper name, consider these simple facts:

  1. The name should be short and memorable
  2. Should reflect what you are doing
  3. Better to have at least a high-volume keyword

Read the article on Choosing a better blog name to find the best name for your blog (Because it matters for SEO).

Fact
A Domain is the web address a visitor need to enter on the search engines to access your website. Ideally, the domain name and website name should be equal.
(Read the Tools you can use to find a name section to verify your domain is available.)

Get the free domain

Alright, since you got your free domain with the hosting plan,

  • Click Claim free domain.
  • Enter your desired domain name and click Search to see if it’s available.
  • If the domain name is not in use, click continue (will be shown in green color).

Then, you’ll be taken to the domain name registration process.

Fill out all the required information to finalize the process and once everything’s done you’ll be prompted to overview your choices and choose a server location for your website.

Choosing a server location

When choosing the server location, always remember to choose a location near your customers, not to you.

For example, if your blog is about American politics, choose a server in the USA. The website loading speeds and performance will be higher when the server is near.

Click Finish Setup and wait a few moments until the website setup process is complete once it’s done.

Tada. Now you have your domain ready to be customized.

What’s Next

Now you have completed buying the hosting plan and registering your blog on a domain, the next step is creating it.

Start developing your blog, which will be here once it is completed.
